The Department of Education Studies invited Professor Louis Gomez, Professor of Education and Information Studies at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and Senior Fellow at the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, to share his experience and innovative ideas in educational improvement in a lecture titled “How to Build Smart Society – Educational Improvement Science” on 6 March 2019.
Professor Louis Gomez elucidated how to bring Networked-based Improvement Science to the field of Education to form Networked Improvement Community (NIC). This new initiative aims at helping the field take a new perspective on design, educational engineering, and development efforts that catalyze long-term, cooperative initiatives. With a well-specified common aim, the NIC focuses on putting ideas into action to achieve the aim through joining together independent group of tools and materials, people, and processes. In the lecture, Professor Gomez shared some of the successful cases which are highly inspiring and may help us collaboratively create new approaches to teaching, learning and assessment.
