Dr. Kelly Ku, Assistant Professor of the Department of Education Studies, received a HK$444,700 grant of Quality Education Fund (QEF) for a project entitled: “Promoting Critical Social-Thinking Skills for Positive Interpersonal Well-Being among Hong Kong Lower-Primary School Students”. The project is listed under the Center of Learning Sciences of the Department of Education Studies.

The project will implement and test empirically the effectiveness of an Interpersonal Cognitive Problem Solving training program (ICPS) among Hong Kong children age 6 to 8. The ICPS is developed by Professor Myrna B. Shure, a recipient of the 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award of the American Psychological Association, and is registered at the National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices (NREPP) of the United States.

The projects aims to nurture our future generation to become a “thinking child” whom would concern for others’ feelings, consider alternative solutions to conflicts, reflect on the impact of one's words and actions, and commit to building harmonious social environments.

The project brings together researchers of Hong Kong and the United States, educational psychologists, and school teachers. Dr. Ku views the project as a great opportunity to further enhance HKBU’s mission of bridging research, practice and community engagement.
